Norfolk (VA) motorcycle crash claims life

A motorcycle crash in Norfolk (VA) – the third fatal crash in the last week in Hampton Roads – left a Virginia Beach man dead from his injuries, the Virginian-Pilot reported.

Christopher D. Harris, 25, was eastbound in the 500 block of International Terminal Boulevard in Norfolk when he lost control of his motorcycle, Norfolk police told the newspaper. Harris, of Chatham Court in Norfolk, struck a guardrail and was thrown from the motorcycle.

The accident happened at about 3 a.m. Harris was pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Speed was a factor in the crash, authorities told the newspaper.

Friday's crash was not the first fatal crash involving a motorcyclist in Hampton Roads. On Thursday, a Culpeper man died from injuries suffered in a crash in Virginia Beach. A third man died last Saturday.

Man is thrown from motorcycle and dies in Norfolk, Virginia accident

Around 6pm on April 3, 2009 a man riding a motorcycle on East Ocean View Avenue in Norfolk, VA ran into a car. The car was attempting to make a left turn and upon impact the motorcycle driver was thrown from the bike. WVEC 13 News reported the motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of those involved have not been released and the accident is under investigation.

The Outer Banks of North Carolina will be hosting the OBX Bike Week April 23-26, 2009. As the cities of Manteo, Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk prepare for this week it is my hope that so will the motorists who travel the streets of these cities. Accidents involving motorcycle drivers and often result in death or serious injury do to the lack of protection they have. Because of their size motorcyclists are easily overlooked by drivers of other vehicles. Wearing a helmet and proper clothing can help minimize the injury a motorcyclist can receive from an accident.

Severe Injuries in Motorcycle Accidents

I am a baby boomer lawyer and love to be on the road in my daily commute from the Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina to my law office in Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA). There are a lot of people my age who have taken up motorcycling for fun to enjoy the pleasure of the open road. Unfortunately, riding a motorcycle or chopper can be very dangerous, typically because people driving cars and trucks don’t pay enough attention to people on motorcycles. If you get thrown off your bike and killed because of someone else’s fault, the emotional strain on your surviving widow and kids is going to be made even worse if they are also left with uncompensated financial losses from the accident. The economic damages to a family in a wrongful death case can include your lost wages, the financial support you provide your children, even adult children who go to college, and all of the stuff that you do around the house rather than calling a handyman. You need to make sure that you have the right mix of insurance coverage for yourself both on your motorcycle and on your other vehicles. Because of the high number of accidents involving no or too little insurance, the reason to carry the highest limits you can afford is to protect you and your family not just other motorists. Virginian Pilot Headline Screams "Woman Dies in Motorcycle Accident on I-64"

Police out of Norfolk, Virginia (VA) are looking into why the woman on the motorcycle got thrown from the bike and hit by a car. The tragedy of this lady’s death was shocking, even to me as a veteran personal injury attorney in Virginia Beach, Virginia (VA). The 50 year old motorcycle rider from Hayes, Virginia (VA) was riding on Interstate 64 (I-64) near the exit ramp for Interstate 664 (I-664) when she ran off the road and struck a guard rail. The motorcyclist was ejected and then hit by an unknown car that ran over her and dragged her body, killing her.

The Virginia State Police are investigating who struck the motorcyclist and left the scene. If you happen to have any information about this incident which occurred on August 11, 2008 in the early morning hours, you should contact Sgt. Cotten at (757) 746-2557. The hit and run vehicle would have damage to its left front bumper, likely from where it collided with the victim.

The woman who got killed was evidently not wearing the proper type of helmet and alcohol may have been involved. Even if it was partly the fault of the woman on the motorcycle, the hit and run aspect of the case is horrible.

Our law firm has experience in handling motorcycle cases. Serious injuries, or even death, are so common when a motorcycle goes down because of the exposure of the operator, even when the rider is using all of the needed protective equipment. Unfortunately, the other motorist often does not pay as much attention to someone on a chopper as they might to someone in a car. The results are often terrible like this death on the highway killing a person from the Peninsula.

Interstate Buckle In Virginia (VA) Causes Motorcycle Crash

In Norfolk, Virginia (VA) on Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at 2:50 pm a part of I-64, the main interstate highway, buckled, possibly due to the heat which reached 101°F according to weather.com. The road conditions led to a motorcycle accident near 4th View Street, in the Ocean View section of Norfolk. The motorcyclist slid after impacting a Chevrolet Suburban that braked because of the buckling. The cyclist was taken to Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center where he was treated for a minor injury. The Virginia Department of Transportation

(VDOT) made repairs and reopened all lanes of traffic by 7:20 pm.

The motorcyclist was lucky to get away with minor injury. People on bikes are so much more exposed when wrecks happen. Given the highway speeds, the injured cyclist was also fortunate no other vehicles hit him once he was down on the pavement.
